Dear Ms. Jones,
I would like to express my interest in the scientific marketing research summer internship listed on [university.com], under section ‘Internships’. During my extracurricular activities, I heard about [company], and I am convinced that my extra set of hands can help identify the customer’s wants and needs in the business process of [project X]. In this cover letter, I will elaborate on my motivation and qualifications required for this internship.
To shortly introduce myself, my name is [name], and I am a fourth-year junior marketing student at the [University]. During the extracurricular activities at the Marketing Society, members addressed the job opportunity at [company] to me. My co-workers and fellow students emphasized that my educational background, ambition and analytical mind-set are a good fit. After reading the internship description, I was (and still am) motivated to identify your target market and use my comprehensive marketing and analytics background for mutual benefit. I can assist your department, and in return I can expand my research skills.
I have acquired a basic understanding in advertising, public relations and market research. Currently, I am majoring in marketing with a minor in marketing analytics. I am, with a GPA of 3.96 among the 15% of students with the best academic results. During my third year, I used my knowledge to design a marketing campaign for a local wholesale business that yielded the highest ROI based on our given budget. The campaign was so well received that I was awarded second place in the University’s business plan competition.”
While my attached resume will give you an outline of my abilities, a personal meeting allows me to explain how I can contribute to [project x]. I look forward to the opportunity to discuss the possibilities to service your targets’ wants and needs. Please reach me on [phone number] to schedule an interview. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Yours sincerely,
Tom Johnson
