Dear Mr. Young,
In reference to the Financial Aid Program Fall 2024, I am writing to submit my scholarship application to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Journalism at the University of Texas (UT). I was keenly surprised to hear about the $15,000 scholarship that [Name Institution] provides, and it certainly can help me focus on my educational development. In this cover letter, I will elaborate on my motivation and qualifications for this scholarship.
To shortly introduce myself, my name is [Louis Walker] and I will be starting my freshman year at the University of Texas with an intended major in Journalism. I had the pleasure of speaking with [Name Surname] at the First-Year Leaders in Progress Event, and he suggested that I contact you about the scholarship. I am thrilled about the prospect to pursue journalism outside of class, hence gain real-world experience next to traditional academic coursework. The financial support allows me to limit part-time work during my studies. Without the interference of a time-consuming side job, I can focus on academic performance and professional growth.
I am a highly motivated student with an outstanding grade point average (GPA) of 3.90 and participation in extracurricular activities. I gained interest in journalism after joining the yearbook committee. I had the privilege to gather information and write stories that reflect the events and lives of other students. In 2021, I started a student newspaper and gathered a group of ambitious students and faculty advisors with expertise in writing and publishing. My teachers have commended me for my participation and dedication to the school community (see references).
I welcome the opportunity to discuss my candidacy and elaborate on my extracurricular activities. Attached is a copy of my first semester’s results and high school grades for your approval. If you need any further information regarding my application, you may contact me anytime at [Phone number] or [Email Address]. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Kind regards,
Louis Walker
