As you might already know, the hiring process and financial commitment that follows is a costly affair. So, the interviewer wants to have some certainty that you’re planning to stay for a while. This question can help the interviewer gauge your motivation, loyalty and dedication to the company. If you move between jobs frequently or for some reason come across as a job hopper, you’ll most likely encounter this question.
#1 Example Answer
“If hired, I plan on staying with the company for as long as we get mutual benefit from our working relationship. The prospect of working for such an innovative and reputable company in the [Industry] makes me feel excited. I’m also confident that my skills and experience will add value to your team and daily operations as listed in the job description. In conclusion, my intentions are to stay for the long haul.”
#2 Example Answer
“My intentions are to stay for the long-term to assume responsibility and grow with your company. I don’t see this job opportunity as a short-term gig because my goal is to hone [Skill 1] and [Skill 2] while working for a growth-oriented organization. In return, my working experience will add value to your department and help your team with the daily operations as listed in the job description. Basically, my objective is to build a mutually beneficial relationship for the long haul.”
TIPS
√ Do explain in greater detail which or what job and company characteristics encourage you to stay for the long-term, but try to keep your answer short, concise and to the point.
X Don’t give a lengthy explanation of your future plans. Different job titles or slightly different career interests may give the impression that you tire rather quickly of the open job role.
